5 day Transylvanian Experience
This 5 day Transylvanian tour is ideal for you if you don't have much time but still want to experience the magnificence of the Carpathians.
Day 1: Bucharest – Transylvania
Today you depart on your Transylvanian 4x4 Tours scheduled itinerary from Bucharest International Airport for your onward drive to Targu Secuiesc.
Your first night will be spent at a local hotel. I will join you for dinner, and we will then have the evening to discuss the itinerary for the forthcoming days.
Day 2: Into the Vrancea
After breakfast we will head into the Vrancea mountains. Here you will have the opportunity to flavour the spectacular scenery, and take in the fresh air during a mornings walk through the forest.
After your walk you will enjoy a locally prepared hearty lunch in the village of Ojdula before meeting the local forest ranger. He will take you to see bears in the wild. He has intimate knowledge of the mountains, and he will take you to view the bears from the protection of a viewing platform. This will offer you a unique opportunity to photograph bears in the wild.
In the evening we will meet in the village hall where you will meet with the locals and experience traditional Szekely dancing with traditional music. After a tipple with the local plum brandy you may even feel brave enough to have a go at the dancing yourself!
Your second night will be spent at a local guest house in the village of Ojdula.
Day 3: Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle)
No visit to Transylvania is complete without a visit to the infamous Bran Castle. This was the once supposed home of Vlad the Impaler, a well known medieval warlord.
I will take you for a tour of this castle and it’s grounds which are guaranteed to impress.
In the evening you will return to the guest house in Ojdula for your third night.
Day 4: A trip to Balvanyos and St Anna’s Lake
After breakfast we drive to the spa resort of Balvanyos. After parking we will put on our walking boots and walk uphill from the spa to the ruins of Balvanyos Castle. This is one of the early medieval castles found in the area. It is supposed to have been built between the 11th and 12th century. There is a wonderful view from its only square shaped tower to the resort.
Lunch will be in Balvanyos at the Var Etterem restaurant where delicious local cuisine will be prepared for you.
This spa and resort in the mountains is between 770 and 940 meters above sea level. All around it there are 1000 metre high mountain peaks. Deep under the mountains volcanic and sediment rock layers alternate, which made it possible for mineral water springs to break through. The water here is rich sulphur-hydrogen, and although an acquired taste is said to have healing and health promoting properties. People travel here from afar to take in the vapours, bath in the rich sulphur pools and to drink its waters.
After lunch we will drive to St Anna’s Lake an extinct volcano now filled with pure mountain water. This is a wonderful and picturesque area, where you are bound to return home with great memories and photos.
Your fourth night will be spent at a hotel in Balvanyos.
Day 5: Targu Secuiesc - Bucharest airport and onward journey home
After packing and a good breakfast we will drive to Targu Secuiesc. Here you will have the opportunity to buy some souvenirs before your driver transports you to Bucharest for your onward flight home.
